Former Multnomah Publisher and Author of New “God Makes Lemonade” Book Series to Speak at IBE on October 28-29, 2011 in Boise, ID

BOISE, ID (Oct. 18, 2010) – Don Jacobson, former publisher for Multnomah and author of the newly released “God Makes Lemonade”, will be one of the publishing industry experts headlining the second annual Idaho Book Extravaganza on October 28-29, 2011 at The Boise Centre in downtown Boise, Idaho.

Jacobson headed Multnomah for 14 years where he helped launch a number of successful writers, including New York Times bestselling author Max Lucado, and oversaw some runaway bestsellers like Bruce Wilkerson’s The Prayer of Jabez.

Five years ago, Jacobson started his own literary agency – D.C. Jacobson & Associates – and represents successful Christian thought leaders like new bestselling author Francis Chan. His latest project is a series titled, “God Makes Lemonade”, comprised of contributions from writers with stories that “sweeten and inspire.”

Jacobson will be one of the main session speakers at IBE, speaking on “Writing to Change: How to write books that will inspire change in your community”, as well as a panelist for the workshop entitled, “The Future of Publishing”.

I was so excited to see the passion they have for reading and writing and hear stories about the impact that The Cabin is making in the community. If you are not familiar with the mission of this program or are interested in getting more involved in the writing community don’t miss talking to The Cabin in this years IBE Trade Show.

History, Mission, Programs

The Cabin incorporated as a nonprofit organization in 1995 as The Log Cabin Literary Center. Its mission is to inspire and celebrate a love of reading, writing and discourse throughout Idaho and the region.

The Cabin annually serves about 750 members, over 2,000 children and youth, and over 30,000 people through educational and cultural programs. Programs for young people are the largest part of The Cabin’s work.

The Cabin has become a cultural anchor in Idaho. It serves diverse constituencies through:

Readings & Conversations, an annual lecture series bringing nationally-acclaimed literary figures to Boise.

Writers in the Schools (WITS), placing professional writers in classrooms.

Idaho Writing Camps, identified by the National Endowment for the Arts as one of ten model arts education programs in the U.S.

The Big Read, a community-based reading initiative.

Literary activities such as writing workshops, readings by Idaho authors, and other programs.

Possibly you’ve been overwhelmed by the amount of information and don’t have any idea where to start. Here are a few things to note for the beginner…

A lot goes into how search engines (Google) list searches. There is no turn key way to get your page to the top.

Be patient and be consistent. Update your content as much as possible and keep it relevant to your topic.

Submit your page to search engines. This is a great blog with links on where to do this. (its fast and easy)

Use multiple forms of media, pictures, video, links etc. and tag all of them!

Share your content on social media.

Don’t be afraid to ask for comments or for other people to share your information.

Comment on and share other peoples content. The web is social its not all about you

Once you are comfortable with the basics, research more and learn from what other people are doing. Don’t get overwhelmed! There is a TON of information out there you do not need to do it all at once.

With the worldwide marketplace, consumers can then purchase that book in print or e-book from anywhere in the world.

Now that’s good business.

And, according to the Publishing Institute, “Writing a book boosts revenue 380% for consultants, 219% for public speakers and 194% for real estate agents.

Why You Should Write a Book

You have something to say. Perhaps you want to change the world, share your passion or leave a permanent record for future generations.

Books help you do that. Books change lives every day.

And not just for readers. Having a book with your name on it is more impressive than a business card. Authorship improves your credibility and professional status.

Due to the significant changes in the publishing industry, your chances of being published have increased tenfold in the last decade.

Allow your ideas to make a difference. Create your legacy. Publish your book.
